(Matthew 5:13-14)

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salt again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Jesus once looked at an ordinary crowd of everyday people and said something surprising: You are the Salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”

Jesus did not mean you have to be perfect, famous, or a religious expert to matter. He meant that right where you are- at your kitchen table, at work, or walking down the street- you can carry a quiet, good flavor and a warm light. Salt makes food better and keeps things from spoiling; light helps people see in the dark and find safety. Loving others does not require a grand speech or pompous entry. It looks like noticing a neighbor who is lonely, sharing what you have when someone is in need, or choosing kindness when life feels hard to someone. You can bring flavor and light into a tired world simply be caring and acting on it.

Here are some simple ways you can this out:

  • Be present where God has you right now: Salt only works when it touches the food. Step into your real, everyday life instead of hiding from it.

  • Bring good flavor: Add kindness, patience, and peace to tense rooms or heavy conversations instead of adding drama.

  • Let your light shine out: Do not hide your goodness of unique gifts- like a child’s drawing or a heartfelt poem. Share them openly so others feel encouraged.

  • Point people to goodness: Let your everyday actions make people curious about God’s love, so they look up and see hope in a dark world.
